John Cheek and Jared Brame were injured when they were involved in a motorcycle accident earlier today, September 28, 2010. The motorcycle accident occurred on Sandy Cross Road near the intersection with Boyd Road. The two off-duty troopers were riding with another motorcyclist when Mr. Cheek’s vehicle experienced a mechanical malfunction, causing him to take his eyes from the road and hit a mailbox. In order to avoid colliding with Mr. Cheek and his motorcycle, Mr. Brame swerved. He lost control of the motorcycle and wound up in a ditch. Both men were taken to Moses Cone Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Another motorcyclist was with the two troopers, but he was not involved in a crash and remained unharmed.
