Jorge Chavarria, 18, passed away this morning, December 9, 2010, at WakeMed’s Raleigh campus.

Jorge was walking across North Broad Street in Fuquay-Varina, NC on the way to Fuquay-Varina High School just after 7:00 a.m. yesterday morning, December 8, 2010. The 11th-grade student had just left a gas station and was in front of his school when he was struck by one of the school’s instructors, Robert Ken Lee, 51.

Police have not yet filed any charges as the accident remains under investigation. Jorge was not one of Mr. Lee’s students.

Principal Edward McFarland said of Jorge Chavarria, “He is a really nice kid. He’s liked by his peers,” yesterday in an article published by news-record.com before the student’s death.

Mr. McFarland also said that Mr. Lee is “a popular teacher” and “very upset” by the accident.
