DePuy Pinnacle case still awaiting new trial date

On Behalf of | Feb 2, 2015 | Drug & Medical Device Injuries |

Recipients of the DePuy Pinnacle hip implant must wait a while longer before resolving their claims.

The DePuy Pinnacle hip device was never recalled, but was taken off the market in 2012. Thousands of lawsuits from across the nation have been consolidated in front of a federal judge in Texas. The first “bellwether,” or test trial, resulted in a verdict for DePuy. That trial involved an injured person who had a complicated medical history, and may not represent the majority of DePuy Pinnacle hip recipients.

The next DePuy Pinnacle bellwether trial has not yet been scheduled.

The DePuy Pinnacle hip implant is a metal-on-metal hip device, designed very similarly to the recalled DePuy ASR hip device. The design can result in wear of the metal ball and cup, causing metal ions to leach into the blood stream and surrounding tissue. Called metallosis, this type of metal poisoning can lead to serious health problems.
