Leigh Ann Culverhouse, 34, of North Wilkesboro, was driving her 7-year-old son, Joshua Ryder Bumgarner, on his birthday, September 28, 2010, when she crossed the yellow line on Country Club Road in her 1998 Honda Passport and hit a GMC truck head on. Culverhouse and her son were both airlifted to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where Culverhouse died several hours after the collision.

Bumgarner is listed in fair condition having suffered broken legs during the accident. The truck driver, Daryl Clay Triplette, 48, is listed in serious condition, according to an article on myfox8.com. He sustained a dislocated hip and underwent emergency surgery to remove his spleen after the car crash.

All of the victims of this automobile accident were wearing seat belts. Authorities do not suspect that weather, speed nor alcohol contributed to the crash.
