State Dept. Of Labor To Get $2 Million To Aid Workers

The state Department of Labor will receive $2 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Labor to fund a program that makes workers likely to face layoffs more employable.

The program, 'Getting Ahead of the Curve: Raising Education/Skill Levels of Workers in Declining Industries,' will develop strategies to upgrade the skills of workers who are likely to face layoffs, the U.S. Department of Labor announced Wednesday morning.

The funding comes as one part of more than $17 million awarded to nine state agencies around the country for programs that assist dislocated workers.
