Cases of bedbug infestations are on the rise, and the pests are difficult to eradicate. Researchers are trying to develop innovative forms of bedbug infestation prevention and extermination. According to Dr. Coby Schal from NC State University, “The idea of sharing a bed with a large population or even a small population of insects that nightly suck blood from you, there’s a huge psychological cost,” not to mention the painful, itchy bites and property damage that can result. Several central North Carolina college dormitories have been inflicted with bedbugs since August, including Wake Forest University, Wesleyan College and Catawba College.
