A young driver died Tuesday afternoon, March 22, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC following a car accident that happened around 9:48 p.m. on March 21.

Chelsea Nicole Lamb, 17, of Thomasville, was driving a red Jeep when she lost control of the SUV at the intersection of Conrad Hill Mine Road and Robert Beck Road in Davidson County near Lexington, NC.

Both Chelsea and her passenger, April Brooke English, 16, of Lexington, were ejected from the vehicle. Neither of the girls was wearing seat belts.

Chelsea was a junior at Ledford High School. She lost control of her Jeep as it rounded a curve travelling an estimated 70 mph in a 55 mph speed zone. The car overturned several times before coming to rest across the street.

April Edwards is in 10th grade at Central Davidson High. She is listed in good condition at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, but has suffered serious, potentially debilitating injuries as a result of the tragic accident.
