Jacob Turner was killed in a crash on Hodges Dairy Road in Caswell County, North Carolina on January 6, 2011.

Jacob and two other male students—driver, Kristopher Williamson and passenger, Keyon Slade—were on their way to Bartlett Yancey High School around 7:30 a.m. when the vehicle they were riding in went down an embankment and overturned. Trooper Greg Ingram with the NC Highway Patrol believes the car hit black ice on the road.

Apparently, Jacob was the front passenger in the car at the time of the fatal collision. Kristopher Williamson was taken to Duke University Hospital via EMS while Keyon Slade was taken to a Chapel Hill hospital in a helicopter. The conditions of the driver and backseat passenger are unknown at this time.

Caswell County Schools operated on a regular schedule the morning of Jacob Turner’s tragic death. Other North Carolina county school systems—including Alleghany and Wilkes—closed on January 6, 2011 due to poor road conditions.

Another high school student was injured on his way to Reagan High School in Forsyth County the same morning. He was airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. His name has not been released.
